DESCRIPTION
This long-range course is an introduction into theory and ballistics for long-distance shooting. Students will learn optics, ballistics and trajectory. This 2-day course will cover the basic fundamentals of marksmanship. You will become familiar with the characteristics of your rifle, you will learn how to properly maintain your rifle, how to efficiently sight in, learn how to engage short and long-range targets and much more. Feel at ease, you will be in the company of other shooters just like you.
DAY ONE
Located in the classroom Scottsdale Gun Club, and the topics include general and specific range rules, nomenclature of rifle and scope, loading, operation and unloading of the rifle. Students can expect an introduction to precision rifles, description, scope adjusting, mounting options, radian measurements and how they apply, ballistics, human to rifle interface, cleaning considerations. You will also familiarize yourself with wind hold terminology. Students will be given practical applications on Known Distance Range Cleaning (KDRC) during the first day.
DAY TWO
All registered students will meet at Cowtown at 8:00am. We will begin with cold bore shots at 100 yards followed by zeroing techniques and confirmation. Once all students have achieved a proper zero we will cover a practical exercise in bullet drop and collecting Dope/Data for our scoped rifles. While collecting our Dope we will continue the remainder of the day by engaging targets out to as far as the range permits. You will learn how to communicate as a sniper/spotter team to achieve hits quickly and efficiently at distance.

REQUIREMENTS
- Open Mind!
- Long-Distance Rifle (If you have one, please bring it. We will have three .308 rifle systems and two 6.5 Creedmoor Rifles if needed)
- Prone Mat (if you have one, please bring it. If not, we will have a few available to use.)
- Bipod (if you do not have one for your rifle, we will have a few available to use.)
- Sandbags (if you have some, please bring them. If not, we will have a few available to use.)
- Spotting Scopes (not required, but please bring if you’d like to test it out. We will have 3 spotting scopes on-site.)
- Adjustable Butt Stock (not required unless you have an AR-style platform)
- Logbook (D.O.P.E. Card), Pen & Paper
- Ammunition (should be purchased prior to Day 2. Expect to shoot 120 rounds minimum)

PREREQUISITES
- Must be at least 12 years old.
- Competence in the operation and handling of your rifle is necessary, so a basic understanding of rifle skills is highly recommended before taking this class. You must attend Day 1 in order to arrive at Cowtown on Day 2.
