Meet the Gunsmiths
Preston
Preston began his interest in firearms by growing up around them at a young age, and was always intrigued by their mechanical properties. He attended and graduated from The Colorado School of Trades in January of 2016, with an emphasis on gunsmithing. Preston’s main focus has always been diagnostic repair on all types of firearms. He has a specific interest in shotguns, as well as vintage and historical pieces. Preston also served a short period of time as a Firearm Instructor at The Colorado School of Trades, and really enjoyed teaching and assisting others who were also passionate about firearms. Preston joined the gunsmithing department at Scottsdale Gun Club in December of 2021 and looks forward to meeting you and upgrading your favorite firearms today!
Jan

Jan’s main focus is bolt-action rifles for both hunting and precision rifle shooting competitions. Not only is he actively teaching at Yavapai, but also working full-time at Scottsdale Gun Club so that he can pass his knowledge of riflesmithing to future generations. He joined Scottsdale Gun Club’s Gunsmithing Department in June of 2023 and looks forward to speaking to you about all of your firearms.
Gunsmithing faq’s
How do I schedule an appointment?
Our Gunsmithing Department operates on a first come first serve basis. To get your firearm(s) in the queue, simply bring it/them by any time we are open and one of our firearm consultants will be able to check your firearm(s) in for you.
What is the current wait time?
90 days is our current wait time.
Depending on the complexity of your project and availability of parts / tools wait time may vary.
We regularly try to purge our queue of basic jobs like sight installations, muzzle brake installations, and cleanings.
Pro cleans, sight install, optic install, muzzle device install (not including pin and weld) will take 2-4 weeks
How can I speak to a Gunsmith?
One of our gunsmiths is in the store whenever our range is open. Although there are times when we are unavailable to speak with customers, involved in a complex project, already speaking with a customer, in a meeting, at lunch, etc. We do our best to provide excellent customer service but must balance this with our gunsmithing workload. If we are on the phone, computer or sales floor then we aren’t gunsmithing.
You can reach us at 480-348-1111 or gunsmithing@scottsdalegunclub.com
What if I can’t wait in the queue?
We do occasionally accept, at the sole discretion of one of our gunsmiths, expedited work. Costs will be determined based on the deadline and work to be performed.
How much will my project cost?
Our Pricing Guide above will give you a good idea of what certain work will cost. If your job isn’t listed, feel free to reach out for an estimate. While we try to always give accurate quotes, please understand working on firearms is not a cut and dry process. Certain things are beyond our control and a more accurate picture can’t be formed until actually performing the work. We WILL contact you for authorization if your project ends up being more expensive than originally estimated. Reasons for this might be additional labor required, damaged, missing or broken parts, or safety/functional issues.
How do I know if my Firearm is Finished?
As soon as your job is completed, we will call and notify you. If you have multiple projects checked in with us, we will wait until they are all completed unless otherwise specified by you.
